MONEY CHAIN CHALLENGE

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS FUNDRAISER

Thursday 14th March 2024

On the International Day of Mathematics, we're calling on all students to bring in coins and create a money chain for their house. The longer the chain, the more house points up for grabs!

Not only will this be a day of camaraderie and calculation, but a fantastic way to contribute that loose change to your children's education.

After setting all the coins in a line, students can choose to join a Maths Club during recess for a series of fun-filled, real-world mathematical challenges and activities, as we count up the money.

All the funds raised will go towards the school P&C to help support the school in purchasing a variety of resources including new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) resources to enhance our children's learning experience.

Start rummaging through those couch cushions and piggy banks

- it's time to stack up those coins for a cause!

WHAT DO PARENTS NEED TO DO?

Collect coins for your child/ren to bring to school on 14th March 2024.

We recommend setting up a jar/container at home and getting family members to add their spare change each day.

You can send as many or as few coins as you like. Please do not send coins before the 14th as we have nowhere to store them.

You may wish to put them in a special envelope so that the money doesn't get mixed with canteen money.

We won't be running the spellathon this year so please give generously, and see if any friends/grandparents would like to contribute any coins.

Remember house points are at stake!

WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO DO?

Bring some coins to school on 14th March 2024.

In the afternoon, students will get to add their coins to a row of coins on the ground.  There will be three rows, one for each house.

At recess, students can choose to join a fun Maths Club in measuring, weighing and counting up all the coins. Plus other fun maths activities.

House points will be awarded based on the amount of money raised and the length of the money chain!

HOW WILL THE WINNING HOUSE BE DECIDED?

The three houses, Munda, Wyuna, and Bangal will each have their own money chain (line of coins).  The chains will, hopefully, be very long and winding.

The chains will then be measured and counted by the students at recess.

Each house will get 10 house points for every $50 they raise for the school.

The winning house will be the house with the LONGEST money chain.

50 house points will be awarded to the winning house!

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MONEY?

Students are invited to help measure and count the coins at recess on 14th March. There will also be other fun mathematical challenges and activities.

All money collected will be put into the WPPS P&C fundraising account.  The money will be used to assist the school in setting up a dedicated STEAM classroom to advance the technology program at WPPS and help our children prepare for an increasingly high-tech world.

WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MATHEMATICS?

The International Day of Mathematics (IDM) is a worldwide celebration. Each year on March 14 all countries are invited to participate in activities for both students and the general public in schools, museums, libraries and other spaces.
